Dress Code

A note on shopping: If you'd prefer to shop for your outfits once you arrive in Chennai, that's absolutely an option — just let us know in advance so we can plan for it. On the 29th, we're arranging a shopping day in Chennai to help everyone find their outfits. Please allocate at least one full day for this, as it takes time. Our wedding planning team will arrange a vehicle and recommend stores for you, but sorting your outfits ahead of time will be more convenient and often more affordable.

Welcome Party

The dress code is Western or Indo-Western nighttime wear. Think animal print, beads, and texture that moves with you.

  • Women: Short or long dresses — animal print, silk, sequins, beading. Bold colors, bold textures and prints. In this case, the bigger the better

  • Men: Button-up shirts (short or long sleeve) in prints and color; jackets optional.

Think elevated, glamorous jungle chic. Subtlety is not invited.

Reception

Fancy lehengas and designer sarees for women — pastels, champagne, and silver are beautiful choices, though any color is welcome. Think beaded details, mirror work, and elegant embellishment. Men can wear fancy silk kurtas or silk pattu shirts with formal pants, or a veshti.

For our international guests: We recommend renting from Boomie.com or purchasing from Lashkaraa ahead of time — both ship within the US. As our families and guests lean more traditional, we kindly ask that you keep your outfit on the modest side.

Sangeet / Mehendi

Traditional South Indian attire. For younger women/girls, a half saree is preferred. For women who prefer sarees, we suggest linens and soft silks in traditional handwork or designs like kalamkari or checks, bright colors or any color are welcome. A churidhar is also a great option, block print or something slightly fancier both work well. Men can keep it simple with cotton or linen kurtas featuring light embroidery or work.

If you'd rather order online — for our international guests: Nishorama, Pernia's Pop-Up Shop, or Kalki are all good options for a churidhar.

Wedding Ceremony

Traditional South Indian silk saree for women. Men wear a silk pattu shirt with veshti.

For our international guests: We'll be gifting you your outfit for the day — a saree for women, and a pattu shirt with veshti for men. For women, someone will come to your hotel to drape your saree for you, so there's nothing to worry about there.
